The City's fifteen acre flood
control pond resides on the 100 acre Canalways site. It was
engineered and built in 1973 with an approximate depth of 6' deep in the
center. It has not been dredged, or cleaned of silted buildup,
since its 1973 design. when dried out out a summer day it could
easily pass for an American Legion infield. What would it cost to
dredge this pond out to its original depth and make it the more
functional pond it was intended and supposed to be maintained as?

For years (perhaps 10+ years) the 60" pipe that runs from the
pump house that fronts the pond to the ocean had cracked away from its
pump house connection. Consequently, at high tides the ocean would
press down the 60" pipe and into the pond. This contributed
to the flooding of the site, especially during the rainy seasons. Broken
